Bike For Bread Bike A Thon Image

2006 Bike-A-Thon

Bike for Bread is a non-profit organization that has been raising money for years to support those who are hungry and homeless.  It is run entirely by volunteers and has no overhead costs so all money raised goes directly to help those in need. Bike for Bread 2006 is a student-driven initiative started by the Oswegatchie School Enrichment Clusters.

Since its start in 1996, Bike for Bread has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for those in need in northeastern Connecticut.  The third graders at Oswegatchie School in Waterford would like to do the same for those living in the southeastern part of the state.

Living in one of the wealthiest states in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, people too often assume that the issue of hunger doesn’t exist here.  Unfortunately, it does.  According to Connecticut Food Bank statistics, in our state alone, 350,000 people are hungry or food insecure at some point during the year.  Forty percent of these people are children.

The third graders at Oswegatchie School would like to help their peers in need.  They are joining forces with Bike for Bread to work toward ending hunger in Connecticut.  Any support given to this effort will be greatly appreciated.
